Interview With Sayem Hoque
Sayem were a few outs from your big day. Talk me through how you’re feeling as we creep up on fight week.
I’m feeling the best I’ve ever felt; camp is going well, and I just can’t wait to go out there and show everyone my skills.
You’re fighting out of one of the country’s hottest gyms at the moment. How much confidence does that give you as you prepare to make your amateur debut?
ACE MMA has literally got the best fighters in the UK; constantly being around the best will only make you better, so training and fighting out of ACE has got me prepared for anything I’m coming to take over!
That said, who are some of the guys in the gym who have been helping you the most and giving you the best advice?
My Coaches, who are also my uncles lol, Shaj Haque and Sham Haque, My grappling coach Jordan Cooper, and all the guys at ACE MMA coming through, like Sami Hoque, Aaron Givens and Shawon, all these guys have an answer to any question.
For the readers who don’t know, can you let them know how long you’ve been training for and how you and the team knew the time was right to take the leap?
My uncles got me into the sport when I was young, so I have been training for a good few years now, but MMA runs in my family, lol; my brothers are both fighters, and My uncles are fighters, so I didn’t want to be left out, and now it’s finally time to show the division how it’s done.
Hoque Talks Joe Toone
Your opponent on Aug. 5 will be Joe Toone, who has a kickboxing background. Have you dived into that at all? If so, what are your overall thoughts on his stand-up and the puzzle he brings?
I haven’t really seen much of my opponent; I’m just focusing on my game but expect fireworks from this one.
Assuming you have a great career ahead of you, have you set any goals forward for yourself? Small and perhaps big?
I’m going to stay as active as I can for the rest of the year. I want to try to gain as much experience as I can, collect a few gold straps next year, turn pro when I’m ready, and then the rest will be history.
It can be a daunting task making your debut, but you have great people around you. What expectations have you put forward for yourself?
As I say, training at ACE MMA and constantly being with the best fighters has got me more than ready for this fight; all the time and effort my team have put into me just makes me, even more, hungrier to become champions like them.
Lastly, can we get an official fight prediction from you? How do you see it panning out?
It’s going to be a good fight. Expect fireworks for this one, but at the end of it on Aug. 5, you will see my hand get raised.
