Sean Clancy Jr. promises to “put it on” Jack Comby at Unity Fighting Championship next Saturday in Darlington and advises the judges to take the night off.
The event will take place in the Dolphin Centre in Darlington on August 5. The show will feature some of the country’s brightest talents. All details can be found on the Unity FC social media for tickets and PPV.
Ahead of fight night, we had the chance to talk with Higher Level Martial Arts’s Sean Clancy Jr. Hear his thoughts on the fight below.
Interview With Sean Clancy Jr.
A couple of weeks out from your second outing of 2023 and your second fight as a professional. How are you feeling physically and mentally following your pro-debut win earlier in the year?
Physically I’m, and mentally, I’m always great. I always feel better than my last outing, so everything’s moving smoothly as usual.
You defeated Ben Disson in the first round at Budo FC 57. It was over in a flash. What do you take away from that performance?
Nothing to really take from the performance, to be perfectly honest. The guy took the fight on short notice, and we weren’t of the same caliber, so it’s hard to look at the video and take much from the performance. Maybe I will be more careful where I’m elbowing in future.
Your teammates, such as Paul Craig and Stevie Ray, have often sung your praise at every opportunity, two guys who have reached the pinnacle of the sport. Can you highlight what that means to have their backing and support as you embark on their journey?
It means the world. These are two guys that have crashed through ceilings for Scottish MMA and shown us how close it all is to us. The knowledge alone they are able to pass down is a blessing, never mind the work we’ve put in together, the experiences we’ve had etc. I look up to them a lot as fighters and as men outside of fighting, so every time I hear them sing my praises, it never gets old.
Sean Clancy Jr. On Advice From Peers
Ahead of your professional debut in April, you’ve had so many teammates around you who have been there and done that. Was there any advice you got from anyone in the gym that’s stuck with you?
Not particularly as far as transitioning to the pro ranks. At the end of the day, a fight is a fight; it’s all the same.
August 5 in Darlington, you meet Jack Comby, who already has three pro-bouts under his belt. When the matchup was first put to you, what were your initial thoughts on his style and the matchup overall?
Aggressive from the get-go, so I’ll be prepared for that. I’ve fought guys like him before, and I’ve put on great performances against them. Now I’m more mature and improved in every facet of MMA, so the performances will only get more impressive.
Assuming you’ve gone back and watched his fights prior to August 5. He has a style that’s extremely entertaining, especially his debut against Mantas a while back. What do you take away from his previous fights?
As I said before, always aggressive. Likes to make a statement at the very start of the fight. He isn’t scared of getting tired or letting his hands go. Plenty of holes, though, obviously, which I’ll expose on the day.
Fight With Jack Comby
When Sean Clancy Jr. fights, the judges can usually take the night off. The same can be said for Jack. Is it fair to say the fans attending can expect a stoppage, and the judges won’t be needed when your pair clash?
The judges won’t be needed, and that’s a fact. I’m not going in to just win a decision and point fight. I’m going to go in, put it on him from the get-go, and get him finished in whatever way comes first.
Finally, do you have any last words for Jack before you both clash in Darlington? Feel free to shout out any sponsors/teammates to close.
Not really. Don’t want to wish him luck cause that makes no sense. And we’re going to fight anyway.
I’d like to give a special shout-out to a couple of my sponsors: JamJar Paisley, azure pool services and Reilly Reinforcements, for helping me out. They’re going to be a massive help going forward.
