UFC bantamweight champion, Sean O’Malley, will be sporting a fresh new look in the Octagon at UFC 299 this weekend. O’Malley took to twitter to showcase his new champion Venum trunks in a never before seen colorway, hot pink with the classic gold trim and lettering. To match the trunks it seems, O’Malley also dyed his hair with inspiration of the classic Miami vice colors, hot pink and neon blue.
“What’s up fellas, we are four days away from UFC 299, live on pay per view,” O’Malley said as he revealed the new Venum trunks on X.
Sean O’Malley Sports Pink Venum Championship Shorts
Even before he became the UFC bantamweight champion, O’Malley built a reputation for boasting a flashy sense of fashion and style. Before the days of Venum or Reebok allowing fighters to customize their shorts, O’Malley used his afro as a way to add flair to the Octagon. Whether it was dyed the colors of the rainbow, or the colors of his opponents home flag, O’Malley liked to add that flair in his appearance as well as his fight style. Outside of the cage, ‘Sugar’ owns a hot pink Lamborghini as well as a hot pink Tesla. Wherever O’Malley goes he makes a statement.
When he fights, O’Malley makes sure he brings that same flashy style with him. O’Malley will dance, taunt and throw crazy strikes for however long his fight may last. Most notably O’Malley taunted his opponent Kris Moutinho by ‘playing basketball’ as he fought him toe to toe. When he’s not toying with his opposition, O’Malley delivers devastating, highlight reel knockouts. Most notably his finishes of Aljamain Sterling, Eddie Wineland, Raulian Paiva and many more. O’Malley always leaves his stamp on the fight one way or another.
Custom Shorts in the UFC
For some time, fans and fighters have wanted more customization in the fight kits, similar to the early days of the UFC before any apparel deals had been signed. Those calls for customization mostly went unheard, until UFC featherweight contender Bryce Mitchell was granted his custom camouflage fight shorts at UFC 272. From there the UFC seemed to grant champions the ability to stray away from the classic black and gold colorway we had seen for so long.
Amanda Nunes was seen in a yellow and gold look, Israel Adesanya opted for both a green and gold as well as a red and gold. Despite the new sense of customization, fighters still needed to stick within the boundaries of shorts the UFC and Venum already had made. With O’Malley’s new pink shorts, this might potentially open the door to allowing fighters full customization of their shorts going forward.
