UFC middleweight champion Sean Strickland revealed on X that he became extremely emotional on comedian Theo Von‘s podcast recently. The episode has not yet been released, but Strickland opened up about his emotional outpouring in a series of candid posts on the social media site.
Sean Strickland Becomes Emotional on Podcast
The UFC champion isn’t known for opening up emotionally, but the conversation on Theo Von’s podcast caused the fighter to break down in tears. In one of the posts, Strickland said that it wasn’t his finest moment.
Strickland has disclosed information on his difficult upbringing before. On the Joe Rogan Experience, he discussed how he was abused by his father as a child. It’s apparent that sensitive issues were raised in the podcast with Von, and the 32-year-old described almost biting a hole through his lip trying to stop the tears.
Brash, honest, and as tough as they come, Strickland is one of a kind. No matter what opinion you may hold regarding his controversial views, you cannot deny he is unapologetically himself. This raw emotion may seem out of character, but he is a human being that has been through much more than the average man. Even though we haven’t seen this emotion before, he is still likely to garner respect and divide audiences everywhere. Sean Strickland on any podcast is guaranteed to get people talking.
Strickland in the News Again
A Sean Strickland Podcast isn’t the only talking point. The posts on X come only days removed from the 2024 season press conference and the events at UFC 296. In addition to the revelations on X, Strickland and his next opponent Dricus du Plessis traded verbal and literal blows at these events.
At the press conference, bad blood was created. Du Plessis made comments about Strickland’s father in the back-and-forth. As a result, Strickland retorted and set the tone for the events that would unfold at UFC 296.
At the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Strickland and du Plessis were only separated by a couple of rows. Du Plessis appeared to taunt Strickland and beckoned him to approach, and the middleweight champion obliged. Consequently, the two fighters ended up in a brawl that stole the show at UFC 296. Despite the violence that ensued, Strickland politely asked Gilbert Burns‘ family to move aside before leaping over seats towards his future opponent.
Thanks to the wild antics, the fight between Strickland and du Plessis will be highly anticipated by fans. It is an intriguing matchup especially after Strickland’s shocking win over Israel Adesanya and du Plessis’ masterful performance against Robert Whittaker.
