From dreams to nightmares, Dricus Du Plessis extinguished any hope Sean Strickland would again reign as UFC middleweight champion. In a twenty-five-minute chess match, Strickland found himself on the losing end of a decision for the second time. And for a second time, Strickland vented his feelings about his loss on social media. “What’s up, guys? we’ve been here once or twice. I’m so grateful for you guys’ support. You guys are so awesome win or lose, you guys always ride and I appreciate you Dricus, F***ing hats off, hell of a fight, broke my nose in six places. The silver lining is my nose is so broken it’s really easy to reset, so that was a new experience,” Strickland posted in a video he released on Instagram.
Strickland’s UFC 312 Rematch Ends in Defeat
Even though Strickland lost a one-sided decision to Du Plessis in their rematch. Tarzan vs Stillknocks 2 had moments In rounds 1,2, and 3 that showed Du Plessis take a more measured approach to this encounter with Strickland. Both Strickland and Du Plessis chose their moments to engage masterfully. With Du Plessis constantly on guard for the famous Strickland Jab. The odd movements and constant pressure of Strickland kept the champ from dipping too far into his arsenal of kicks and spinning attacks. By the start of round 4, both corners were fired up and barking orders. More action one, we need you to cut off those angles, and best of all coach Eric Nicksick with the “I want this round”.
Strickland’s Round 4 Nasal Fracture
Round 4 begins with Du Plessis and Strickland both trying to press the action. As Strickland landed his patented Teep kicks to the gut. Followed by the classic jab, jab cross Du Plessis evaded and looked for his moment to counter early. When Du Plessis saw his moment open the champ didn’t waste a second unleashing on Strickling violently. A nasty combination that left Strickland holding his freshly broken nose and starting to bleed profusely from the area. As the crowd smelled blood and rose to their feet, Strickland was under attack from Du Plessis sensing a finish. Du Plessis poured on Strickland the remainder of the round until the horn sounded and Strickland could be heard telling his corner ” I had to reset it”
Du Plessis Eyes Stricklands Corner After win
After a hard-fought victory over Strickland in a decision no one can question this time. Du Plessis set his sights on the cornerman of his opponent Alex Pereira. Although Pereira has hinted at making the move down from light-heavyweight for a bout with Du Plessis. No actions for or against has been taken from either camp until Du Plessis openly called out Pereira after his win. The only thing that would stop the two juggernauts from classing would be the title promise the UFC president Dana White, made to Khamzat Chimaev. Chimaev is undefeated in the UFC and coming off a win against Robert Whittaker back in October. Should be next in line for Middleweight king Du Plessis. Oddly enough allows Belal Muhammad to fight Strickland for a BMF title at middleweight as we move closer to International Fight Week.
