Sean Strickland is eager to get back at Dricus du Plessis, and he wants to do it on his home soil.
Du Plessis, the current UFC middleweight champion, defended his title in a thrilling bout at UFC 305. He faced off against Israel Adesanya and secured a submission victory in the main event at RAC Arena in Perth.
Strickland, who previously lost his title to du Plessis by a narrow decision at UFC 297, is now eyeing a rematch. As the number one contender, Strickland wasted no time in sending a message to the South African champion following the fight.
Sean Strickland Reacts to Dricus du Plessis Submitting Israel Adesanya at UFC 305
“Time for war Dutch man……” Strickland declared.
But Strickland has a condition. He wants the rematch to take place in the United States.
“We will be fighting in the land of the free… You’re not ducking me Dutch man… I know you’re going to try… it’s not happening… Dana White, ‘you’re next in line.’ We’re bringing it back to America, and the belt is staying here!” Strickland asserted.
His comments follow UFC CEO Dana White’s statement that Du Plessis might have his next fight in South Africa. Strickland, however, isn’t keen on that idea.
“You don’t want me there, and I don’t either,” Strickland said. “South Africa has the highest unemployment rate in the world. It’s got the third worst crime rate globally and is one of the most unequal places on earth. It’s got a small wealthy white minority and a large poor black majority. Vegas is where it’s at.”
Strickland didn’t hold back. “Vegas, man… I always travel. Let me fight in my country… unless you want me to go fix South Africa. We can go to Africa and fight in front of a bunch of white people, lmao.”
Strickland is fresh off a victory over former title challenger Paulo Costa at UFC 302. Despite this, du Plessis believes that Robert Whittaker might be a more deserving challenger for the title.
