Former UFC Middleweight Champion Sean Strickland States Alex Pereira ‘F****** Hates’ Dricus Du Plessis
This weekend, the UFC goes down under for UFC 312 at the Qudos Bank Arena in Sydney, Australia. The event is headlined by a Middleweight title fight rematch between champion Dricus “Stillknocks” Du Plessis and Sean Strickland.
The last time the two faced off Du Plessis played challenger to champion Strickland. In a gruellingly fast-paced fight, the pair slugged it out to the end with Du Plessis ultimately getting the split decision victory.
Since then Du Plessis has defended his belt against former champion Israel Adesanya, stopping the former champ via fourth-round submission. Strickland too got a win under his belt dominating Paulo Costa to a unanimous decision victory.
The UFC decided it was time for them to settle things for good after their razor-close first bout. Strickland has called on the help of Light-Heavyweight champion Alex ‘Poatan’ Pereira to corner him during his UFC 312 rematch.
Despite Pereira finishing Strickland by KO at UFC 277 in 2022, Strickland and Pereira have built a bond. Countless videos have circled on line of Sean and Alex sparring together as their relationship continues to grow, Strickland elected Pereira to join him in the corner this weekend.
Surprisingly at the UFC 312 media day Sean Strickland announced that Pereira has a strong disliking for champion Dricus “StillKnocks” Du Plessis.
‘Poatan’s’ Dislike for ‘StillKnocks’
Ahead of their fight, Strickland was asked about whether ‘Poatan’ hates champion Du Plessis, to which Strickland stated:
“I think Alex is an angry motherf—er. Like, Alex is angry and for some reason he hates Dricus. I don’t know what you did to him. But he f—ing hates you, dude. The way he looks at Dricus sometimes, I’m like, ‘Dude, I’m fighting him dawg, it’s me dude.’ Alex, he just has that hate in his heart but he’s a good dude.”
Without explaining specifically why Pereira hates Du Plessis, it is possible that ‘Poatan’ sees Dricus as a future opponent. Having hinted at a return to Middleweight in the past where he formerly held the belt, perhaps his distaste for Du Plessis will be motivation to return to 185lbs.
