UFC Middleweight champion Sean Strickland has threatened to stab his opponent at UFC 297 Dricus Du Plessis if he ever mentions his childhood again ahead of UFC 297.
After claiming the title from Israel Adesanya at UFC 293, Sean Strickland has become one of the biggest stars in the organisation and his upcoming fight against Dricus Du Plessis has drummed up a lot of attention. The two middleweights have had verbal and, most notably at UFC 296, physical altercations outside of the octagon. Dricus Du Plessis has seemingly crossed the line however as the South Africans comment on Stricklands father has seemingly put him in danger of the middleweight champ.
In a recent episode of The Man Dance podcast with Chris Curtis, Sean Strickland spoke on the situation between the two fighters. While Strickland recognised that his fight with Du Plessis is going to be a war, he made his feelings on Du Plessis’s comments very clear. ‘I actually talked to Dricus after that. And I was like, Dricus. Because I like the guy. Me and him are going to have a f*****g war. We’re going to have a f*****g death match.’
He continued, ‘There is no other way that ends, you know. Someone’s getting knocked the f*** out. So I actually sent him a f*****g message and I was like ‘Dude listen Dricus, we’re going to try and murder each other but if you bring that s**t up again, I will f*****g stab you’.’
Sean Strickland on His Brawl With Du Plessis
Strickland shared a message on the conversation he had with Dricus Du Plessis on his personal boundaries when promoting a fight. ‘I’m not saying I don’t want to fight you, Dricus. I’m not saying you’re not a good fighter, I’m just saying that that’s the line that when crossed, it transcends fighting. If I go to Canada and you bring that up, Well guess what? I’m going to go to jail, they’re going to deport me and we spent 8 weeks of training for no f*****g reason.’
Finally, Sean Strickland spoke on his brawl with Du Plessis in the crowd at UFC 296. ‘I knew it would get broken up. So I was like the best thing I could do is 12-6 elbows to the back of his head. If I wanted to do the most damage. And this is f****d up bro, this is really f*****d up… If you look in the video right at the very end, I went to go bite… The reason why I didn’t fully commit as I did it I was like, ‘Sean, there is know coming back from this’.’
Many fans were thrilled to see such a spectacle of the two middleweight giants clash however, fighters such as Robert Whittaker believed the fight to have been staged. One thing that isn’t staged though, is the fiery rivalry between Sean Strickland and Dricus Du Plessis. Strickland is right to believe that this going to be a ‘f*****g war’.
