Interview With Shah Kamali
Shah Kamali, you’re a week out from putting your title on the line in a big event on FightStar championship. Talk me through your thoughts and feelings ahead of Fightstar Championship 25.
Im very excited. I’ve been preparing meticulously for this fight for the past 12 weeks, and it’s almost time to show my skills in the fightStar cage once again, this time at the O2, so it’s even more exciting. This is my third title defence for my FightStar belt, so im more than accustomed to the occasion.
What does it mean to you to hold the heavyweight strap in one of the leading and biggest promotions in the UK?
FightStar puts on quality fights. It’s a serious promotion. That’s what drew me to fight here. They’re not settling either, which is what I like. Raj is putting on bigger and better events every time. So it does mean more to me to hold the FightStar belt than other promotions. It also means a lot to my people, the Bangladeshi community. To have a champ in the heavyweight division is something people wouldn’t ever imagine, but here I am.
Shah Kamali on Fight With Ture Asaboro
You enter the bout 5-0, with four five-round stoppages. Where does that killer instinct to finish fights come from, and can Fightstar tell the judges to take the night off on Aug. 5 with you colliding with Ture Asaboro?
Marvin Hagler talks about the monster that comes out when he fights. That’s the closest I can get to describing what happens when I enter the cage. Im a man on a mission. I know when I land, it’s different. My last opponent was shocked backstage. He told me after the fight that he’s never been hit so hard. Ture is tough, so I won’t expect him to fall over, but he knows that I hit hard, so it’s going to be a good fight.
FightStar championship 25, 10th anniversary, two undefeated regional champions collide for gold. Can you even sell the fight more than that?
Im not sure you can. If only I told him to put his Almighty belt on the line, and I put my fcc belt on the line, haha.
In Ture’s last fight, he managed to grind from being in a bad position for the majority of the fight and found a way to win. Did you manage to watch that back? If so, what are your thoughts on the fight and his style/skillset overall?
Great display of heart. I like to see that in an opponent it means he’s going to bring the fight. He’s tough and durable. It’s not easy to be out-grappled for 14 minutes and win, but he showed he can, so props to Ture. He’s a skilled opponent. I’ve watched all of his fights. He is technically astute and well-versed everywhere, and we’re prepared for that. I’ve been working very hard with my coaches to have the game plan ready for him.
Finally, tell the fans what they can expect from Shah Kamali on fight night.
My fans already know what I’m bringing, straight heat from the get-go. Whenever you watch a card and I’m fighting on it, you won’t be disappointed. See you all on Aug. 5.
