UFC welterweight Shavkat Rakhmonov likes his chances in a potential future fight with fellow contender Ian Machado Garry.
Rakhmonov was scheduled to face welterweight champion Belal Muhammad in the main event of UFC 310 in Las Vegas, Nevada. But, when Muhammad withdrew from the bout due to a toe injury, one of the first fighters to throw his name into the hat to face ‘Nomad’ was Machado Garry.
Although, it did not take long until it was announced that the Irishman would instead face someone else. He goes up against Joaquin Buckley in a December 14 main event at the Amalie Arena in Tampa, Florida.
Speaking on The Ariel Helwani Show, the Kazakh spoke of his confidence in a future fight with the former Cage Warriors champion based on previous training sessions that the pair shared at Kill Cliff FC.
He said: “To be honest, I don’t care.
“I’m ready if it’s going to be him after he wins his next fight. If it is, it could be good for both of us, we can do it.
“If he wants to try and take my zero, he can try, but I know the same thing is going to happen that’s happened in the training.
“I’m going to just keep it the same way, and I’m pretty confident that I’m going to beat him. You know, it’s just training, I don’t want to praise myself too much.
“It’s just training, but I feel comfortable with how the training went. Whether it was striking or the ground, I felt comfortable and in control. So, I’m pretty confident in this matchup.”
Will Shavkat Rakhmonov Stay on UFC 310?
At the moment, it is unclear whether the 30-year-old will remain in the main event of UFC 310, or if he will stay on the card at all.
Both he and former champion Kamaru Usman have expressed interest in facing one another on the card, however nothing has been announced yet.
Usman hinted at him potentially taking the fight in multiple posts on X.
