Ian Garry, a rising star in the welterweight division, recently called out fellow unbeaten contender Shavkat Rakhmonov for a massive showdown at UFC 310 later this year. Responding to the challenge, Rakhmonov asserted that a fight between them would not be a close contest at all.
Rakhmonov, who climbed into the welterweight top-3 last December with a decisive victory, has an unblemished record with a 100% finishing rate. He showcased his skills by defeating Stephen Thompson, a multiple-time title challenger, with a second-round rear-naked choke at UFC 296.
In contrast, Garry from Portmarnock has been making waves too. He extended his perfect record to 15-0 at UFC 303 last month during International Fight Week, winning a decision against Michael ‘Venom’ Page, a standout from London ShootFighters.
Eager to get back into the Octagon by the end of the year, Rakhmonov was the target of Garry’s challenge. The two fighters have trained together at Kill Cliff FC, adding a personal edge to Garry’s call out. “December 2024 undefeated vs. undefeated let’s make this happen! @shavkatrakhmonov94,” Garry posted.
Rakhmonov responded by pointing out the stark difference in their finishing records. “100% finish rate vs. 53% finish rate,” he posted on his official X account. “It won’t even be close if it happens @iangarrymma.”
Shavkat Rakhmonov Fires Back at Ian Garry’s Call Out
Rakhmonov, a former M-1 Global champion, has been a dominant force in the 170lbs division since joining the UFC. He confidently dismissed Garry’s memories of their training sessions, suggesting that Garry might be overestimating his chances if they were to fight for real.
