Simon Biyong scored the win in his Bellator 281 bout against Luke Trainer in London. The highly-rated Englishman Trainer had a tough outing against the Cameroonian but showed remarkable heart.
Simon Biyong Shows His Power
As the action got underway between the giants both seemed eager. Biyong started with a strong jab and a few kicks, bloodying the nose of Trainer. He then secured a takedown following a dominant stint against the cage. Biyong remained in top position in half guard before Trainer made it back to the fence in an effort to get upright, succeeding and landing a quick takedown of his own. Trainer took the back in the scramble and started landing ground and pound, intermittently threatening with a rear-naked choke. Biyong held on to his fighting life desperately and was warned repeatedly about putting his fingers in his opponent’s gloves.
Both men looked a little less than fresh as the second round got underway. The Cameroonian came out aggressive once again, and Trainer managed to hit him with a nice body shot on a sloppy kick attempt. Biyong though, tagged Trainer once, followed by a huge right that wobbled his opposite and left him in a world of trouble.
Biyong mounted Trainer and rained down ferocious ground and pound that looked like the end. As the barrage continued though it became apparent that Trainer was managing to deflect most of the seemingly endless punches. The Englishman then somehow managed to fight his way out of Biyong’s control and get the top position. The huge crowd excitement was short-lived though as Biyong ended up back on top. Trainer attempted a triangle briefly, though both men seemed to be depleted as the second round closed.
All Square Heading Into The Third?
After the doctor looked over the combatants, both men looked decidedly like they knew they were in a war. After a short lull in the action, both men got close and through bombs, both narrowly missing. The tension was building as both men circled, with nothing until a huge punch from Biyong’s hips dropped Trainer once again, although Biyong was less eager to follow this time. The Cameroonian tried to be more selective with shots, ultimately ending up in side control. Trainer managed to get back up to his feet with a minute to go, exhausted against the cage. Seemingly content to hold Trainer against the cage, The Englishman tried to fight back, but to no avail.
According to the commentators, Simon Biyong won 29-28 in what was a gruelling war between the two fighters.
The judges agreed, giving Simon Biyong the unanimous decision on the scorecards.
