Interview With Sinéadh Ní Nualláin
Sinéadh Ní Nualláin, you’re all set for your second outing this year I believe at Battle Arena Coventry. How have thigs been since your bout with Cherrise Davie, and how nice did that feel getting back to winning ways?
The past few months have been hectic but absolutely positive. I officially moved over to the UK just after the Davis fight, so i’ve been settling in with a new team & new country the past few months. It felt amazing to get back to winning ways. I showed a lot in that fight that people hadn’t seen before so i was over the moon.
Saturday night you meet Saga Elnaes, who recently just made her debut. When you look at this fight, how do you feel about the matchup on paper?
Yeah I don’t know much about her to be honest, she’s had one fight. I couldn’t get matched anywhere so Credit to her for taking the fight against me knowing i’m a much more experience opponent.
Sinéadh Ní Nualláin Talks Saga Elnaes
As mentioned, she made her debut at BA’s last show. There’s very limited tape on her to formulate a game-plan. With her one fight, what things have you been able to pick-up on and indentify, good and bad?
From her debut she looks like a grappler. Didn’t see much of her striking either. Doesn’t phase me though. I don’t really care what her game plan is, i’ll implement my game, i know whether we are grappling or striking I can beat her. She’s starting her career, I am coming to the end of my amateur career. So experience will play a part in this fight.
You made your amateur debut several years ago now. How would you sum up your time thus far competing as an ammy, and looking back, where do you feel you’ve made the biggest improvements?
My amateur career has not been the smoothest what’s so ever. But wouldn’t change any of the hardships or losses because they have shaped me into the person / athlete i am inside & outside the cage. People think I’m just a striker as i come from a kickboxing background, I started that when I was five, but I can wrestle & grapple. Mentally I’ve improved the most since moving to the UK. I have a bullet proof mindset.
Final Words
Ahead of the fight Saga said she’ll enter the cage “like a beast, and leave a winner”, do you have a response to that?
No comment. I think she may be underestimating me but I’m not like her last opponent. The result will show for itself, I don’t need to say anything. Lots of respect for her, but it’s kill or be killed in my eyes.
