29-year-old fighter Stephanie Evans is set to make her professional MMA debut at Cage Warriors 142. After building an amateur record of 7-2, Evans is ready to turn pro on August 13th in Ebbw Vale.
Having made the decision a few years back to set aside both her mathematics degree and teaching job for a life of fighting, Evans is ready to show it was all worth it.
Transition Into MMA
The Port Talbot fighter spent most of her early twenties teaching in a classroom. However, after realising her potential in MMA, she left that behind.
Originally taking up the sport as a way to keep fit, it took just one session to get her hooked. She now works as a firefighter, with any of her spare time taken up by training.
The growth of women’s MMA greatly appealed to her, with Ronda Rousey being one of her main inspirations.
Amateur Fighting
After making her debut in 2018, Evans has built up her résumé at amateur level. She went 3-0 before experiencing her first loss in 2019 against Ivana Petrovic, who is now 4-0 as a pro.
She now holds a record of 7-2, with three of her seven wins coming by way of finish. As well as this, she is riding a three-fight win streak after her most recent win in December 2021.
Evans is a product of Shore MMA gym, which, as we know, train some of the best fighters in the country. Training with Jack Shore and Brett Johns on a regular basis explains Steph’s quick rise in the sport. Her head coach, Richard Shore, has always backed her transition into pro-fighting.
Turning Pro
Steph announced via her Instagram (spe_mma) that she would be making her pro debut on August 13th at CW142.
“The last six years have all led to this. Every win, every loss, every hard session, all of the blood, sweat and countless tears. MY PRO DEBUT BABY!”
It is not yet announced who she will be fighting, but in her own words, it’s a “stormer”. Several of her teammates are also set to feature on the card. Oban Elliot, Josh Reed and Scott Pedersen are all set to appear.
The event in Ebbw Vale is set to feature both a professional and an amateur card. No fights are officially confirmed at this moment in time, but it is set to be terrific.
