Interview With Stephen Clancy
Mixed Martial Arts debut in the books. Having had a few days to digest the whole experience, how are you feeling now and with your performance?
I am absolutely over the moon with everything am feeling good now, just straight back to the gym.
Your amateur debut is a memorable moment in your career that you’ll look back on for years to come. Did everything live up to your expectations, or did anything surprise you?
Yeh, everything played out perfectly for my debut not too many surprises, and I was happy with my wrestling defence and offence my striking offence as well. Everything was crisp.
Found a home for the leg-kicks consistently and early in the opening round, which resulted in a finish. Was that always the plan going in there against Jamie Falconer, or did you see he wasn’t dealing with them great and continued to hit the sweet spot?
I never had a game plan going into the fight. I just wanted to go in and show how good I am at this sport, and I did exactly that. After the first few kicks, I noticed he wasn’t checking them, so I just started going heavy with the kicks.
Clancy on Muay Thai Background
Coming from an accomplished Thai background at such a young age. Do you feel that previous experience somewhat made you comfortable in there as opposed to your opponent?
Yeh, the Thai differently helped my range. In there felt perfect.
After taking home gold in Canada, was the main goal to always transition to MMA after, and ultimately what resulted in you making that decision?
I was always planning on doing mma. We only went to Canada as I couldn’t get matched in mma, so I needed some experience.
Now having had your first fight under your belt and a first-round finish. What can we expect to see next from Stephen Clancy in terms of MMA? Are you looking to get out there a few more times this year?
I am defiantly want to get back out here this year. I have signed up for the four nations and would love to return to BMF.
This first fight was just a taste of what I have these next years. Everyone is going to see what I can do.
