Former UFC heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic has gone on to respond to Jon Jones’s viral reaction to being called a ‘b****’ during the UFC 309 countdown.
Stipe Miocic and Jon Jones are two of the greatest fighters in UFC history. Former champion Stipe Miocic is widely regarded as the best UFC heavyweight of all time, and the former champion can reclaim the belt for a third time at UFC 309. Stipe Mioic and Jon Jones have kept things mutually respectful in the lead-up to UFC 309. However, things took a turn for the worse after Jon Jones was watching the full UFC 309: Countdown episode, which featured himself and Miocic.
During the episode, Stipe Miocic told Jon Jones to ‘bring it on b****, in a rare showing of condescension for his upcoming opponent. Jon Jones did not take kindly to Stipe’s harsh rhetoric. Jones even went as far as warning the former titleholder that he will regret those words when they meet in the octagon come Saturday. Despite Jon Jones’s reaction, Stipe Miocic has ensured there was no ill intent behind his fiery rhetoric in the pre-fight build-up.
Stipe Miocic Reacts to Jon Jones Warning
Stipe Miocic has recently apologised to Jon Jones, on a recent appearance on the Ariel Helwani Show. During the show Stipe said;
“He was talking to me, I was talking to him,”
“I’m sorry, I wasn’t trying to disrespect him. It was just the heat of the moment.”
As of this writing, Jon Jones has not responded to the Miocic apology. However, the two sides will come face-to-face later this week at the UFC 309 pre-fight press conference. The UFC 309 headliner comes a full year after Stipe Miocic and Jon Jones were supposed to fight at UFC 295. Jones withdrew from the fight on a week’s notice. This was due to an injury, and Stipe opted not to remain on the card. This was in favour of waiting for Jon Jones.
Jon Jones had initially called out Stipe after his then-vacant heavyweight title win at UFC 285. Jon Jones then defeated Ciryl Gane due to a first-round submission with Stipe Miocic sitting cage-side.
New Drama to Title Clash
After more than three years away from being inside the UFC octagon. The 42-year-old Stipe Miocic will look to turn back the clock at UFC 309. Stipe has not fought since a knockout loss to Francis Ngannou at UFC 260. However, before his lost to Ngannou, Stipe Miocic won his trilogy fight with UFC Hall of Famer Daniel Cormier. This was by winning two of their three bouts. Daniel Cormier won their first clash at UFC 226 by knockout. This was at the time was Stipe Miocic first knockout loss in almost six years.
If there is legitimate bad blood between the two fighters, it’ll be the first time in years that both fighters will compete with a little extra motivation. Leading up to recent events, Jon Jones vs Stipe Miocic was coined by many as the biggest fight in UFC heavyweight history. Interim UFC heavyweight champion Tom Aspinall will be waiting for the winner. Although it is uncertain if the winner will stick around. Jon Jones and Miocic have both teased retirement, win or lose, after UFC 309. regardless of what will happen at UFC 309, Jon Jones and Stipe Miocic have gone on to cement themselves as two of the all-time great combatants. Their recent tensions between the two have only added to the gigantic magnitude of the UFC 3009 headliner.
