Former 2 time heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic was hoping to one day complete his trilogy versus Francis Ngannou.
At 41 years old, Stipe Miocic is stepping into the octagon one more time to reclaim his heavyweight belt. This time, the heavyweight GOAT will face the MMA GOAT at Madison square garden on November 11th for UFC 295. Jon Jones and Stipe Miocic will fight for the baddest man title in what could be Stipe’s last fight. This is not the second time Miocic would fight the former light heavyweight champion, Daniel Cormier, who he had a trilogy as well. All 3 names always seem to be tangled together.
Stipe Miocic Hit List Went Ngannou, Then Jones
Another name on Stipe Miocic’s mind is Francis Ngannou. The former foes first competed against each other at UFC 220 back in January of 2018. Stipe comfortably won by unanimous decision and defended his belt. Three years later, the pair met up again at UFC 260. Francis Ngannou got the better of Stipe with a cold knockout in the second round. Francis Ngannou went on to defend the belt once and then leave the UFC for the PFL and a boxing career.
Stipe Miocic was chasing the trilogy with Francis before wanting to fight Jon Jones.
“I really wanted to have a rematch with Francis,” Miocic told the New York Post. “Unfortunately, he left for bigger and better things, so good for him. After that, all I wanted was Jon Jones. It definitely sucks, I definitely wanted that trilogy, but unfortunately, that’s the way the cookie crumbles. Listen, he’s onto bigger and better things. On paper, Tyson Fury is one of the best boxers of all time, but Francis hits really hard. It’s a fight, anything can happen. I wish him all the best. I hope he shocks the world”
As we all know, Francis Ngannou is facing Tyson Fury in a boxing match. So not exactly a step down in competition going against one of the best boxers of all time. However, now, Stipe Miocic and Francis Ngannou are always going to be one a piece.
