Tai “Bam Bam” Tuivasa has another tough day at the office after loosing at UFC 293 in front of his home crowd, in Sydney Australia. He just lost his third fight in a row, all by way of finish.
“Bam Bam” co-headlined UFC 293 and came to brawl with fellow Russian heavyweight contender, 6’7, Alexander Volkov. Tai Tuivasa threw a total of 30 strikes before the Australian got tripped and mounted late in the second round. He got submitted with 23 seconds left in the 2nd round with a slick Ezekiel choke.
Tai Tuivasa Releases Statement
A beat up looking Tuivasa released a statement in Instagram for his fans a few days after UFC 293.
“Walked out to SCAR by musician Missy Higgins, I was the one who ended up with the scar, live to fight another day. ALL LOVE TO MY FANS! SORRY AUSTRALIA I WENT OUT TRIED MY BEST FELL SHORT LOVE YAHS.” He wrote.
“Great work Alexander Volkov, was a pleasure,” he added.
Volkov said on UFC embedded that after the fight, they should grab a beer together. Nothing but respect between the two big man.
What’s next for Tai?
The loss to Volkov is Tai’s third time in three fights getting finished. Last time was a quick first round knockout by Sergei Pavlovich. The time before that, was the first main event in Paris versus Cyril Gane. Gane took him out in the third round with a nice left hook where the referee mercifully stopped it after he go dropped. Before these last three bouts, Tai was on impressive 5 fight winning streak, all by way of knockout. “Bam Bam” was in the top five of the heavyweight division and was on the cusp of a title shot before the loosing skid.
Tai and Alexander will most likely trade ranking spots. Perhaps, it is time for Tai to fight lower down the rankings to regain his confidence back. There is no easy fight in the UFC, obviously but he is still a fan favorite and people get excited when he is on a card. Tai is an eccentric fighter today due to his brawling skills and his popular shoeys post fight after his fights.
He lost but he is not out! Tai Tuivasa is just 30 years old and that is considered young in the heavyweight division. He still has time to fight back into the top five and to regain his confidence back. For now, Tai should rest up, enjoy his time back home in Australia with his family to regroup and to recover. We all want to see this man jump on a cage again, pull out a shoe pour beer into it and drink out of it!
How did you react when Tai got submitted? Will you still like to see him fight tougher fights or fight down the rankings and see another shoey? Let us know in the comments.
