Teremoana Continues The Hype With Emphatic Round 1 KO
Wednesday evening saw Jai Opetaia demolish David Nyika and defend his IBF world title. This card was littered with boxing talent from the Oceania region with many Aussie and New Zealand fighters. Amongst those was heavyweight Justis Huni who secured a 2nd round tko against Shaun Potgieter. However, another heavyweight prospect delivered big time Teremoana Teremoana.
The 5-0, 6’6, 267lbs Australian juggernaut would clash against the relatively obscure 23 year old, 284lbs, 11-1 German based Osasu Otobo. Another suitable opponent for the upcoming Teremoana for his 1st pro fight of 2025 and 2nd in his return to the pros.
He wasted no time from the opening bell pressuring Otobo utlising his size and reach pushing back the smaller man. It did not take the Aussie long to open up scoring a knockdown in less than a minute. Otobo was dropped with a left hook sending him to the canvas and is where he stayed not answering the refs count.
So the hype continues with the heavyweight prospect moving to 6-0 with a 100% finish rate. After the fight he continued to be full of energy performing a dance with his team indicative of his Cook Islander heritage. Following that he would then give an energetic post fight interview.
Teremoana Post-Fight Interview
Teremoana said, “First of all I want to praise my Lord and Savour Jesus Christ without him this wouldn’t be possible. But, yeah, I’m very happy to get this done. 57 seconds I thought I was going to go a bit longer but he wanted to fight. If you want to come to fight I’m going to come and take it from you. So, I’m glad he wanted to engage and I got the job done.”
He was asked about if he heard Eddie Hearn calling for an uppercut as well as if he thinks it’ll be harder to find opponents now. He replied saying, “Nah I can’t hear anything when I’m in the ring to be honest. I just trust in everything I do in the training, trust my coaches and everything they told me. And it all comes in the night so I’m glad to get the win.”
To finish up he said, “If you haven’t used any of these rig performance products you should get onto it. And I just want to thank everyone for coming out it’s so great to be back fighting here in Australia and to have such an awesome crowd. And let’s go Jai Opetaia I’m backing you, let’s go.”
The Future
Eddie Hearn also gave his input after the fight. He said, “They say don’t get too excited to early it’s time to get excited now. I’m telling you now Australian boxing is on fire right now this is the future right here in Teremoana. I truly believe that Australia has a great chance at a future world heavyweight champion. I want the whole of the Gold Coast, Brisbane, the whole country to get behind this guy.”
Hearn continued saying, “He’s a young prospect, he’s a great man, and he really can fight. This is a dangerous dangerous man that’s now 6 fights, 6 knockouts. I believe he’s going all the way to the world heavyweight title. You could be looking at Australia’s world heavyweight champion here get behind this man’s journey. Back out in March in Sydney on a big show”
So, most likely we will see Teremoana again this year in March on a Matchroom show in Sydney. Given his amateur pedigree and now that he’s got a couple of fights under his belt he could take a step up in competetion. There is no rush given his age at 26 but it would be nice to see him get incrementally tested maybe against some domestic talent. The future continues to look bright for Teremoana and we shall see how his career continues to progress.
