However, it was at the ADCC where Galvao truly shone. After clinching the 2007 trials, Galvao brought home a pair of bronze medals in the 77kg and absolute divisions, laying the groundwork for a legacy that would see him named as part of the inaugural class of the ADCC Hall of Fame.
In 2011, Andre Galvao etched his name in the annals of grappling history by becoming an ADCC double champion, triumphing in both his weight class and the absolute division in the same event. He went on to win four more superfights before finally being stopped by the up-and-coming Gordon Ryan at ADCC 2022.
Over the course of his remarkable career, Galvao has toppled some of the sport’s biggest names, including Fabricio Werdum, Braulio Estima, and Roberto ‘Cyborg’ Abreu, among many others. His record of five IBJJF World Championships and nine IBJJF Pan Championship gold medals is a testament to his unmatched skill and dedication.
