Theil Edwards intends to dominate Yassine Adjadi this Saturday in Coventry, England at Battle Arena 77.
The pair are scheduled to clash this Saturday in a fun-fight for the fans. The card is stacked from top to bottom with talent from across the country and further afield. Ahead of the bout, Theil Edwards was faced with a late opponent switch, but a switch that motivates him more than his original opponent.
The Battle Arena middleweight strap is on the line, and if successful, it would mark Edwards second time attaining the title. Ahead of fight night, we had the chance to talk with the amateur prospect. Hear his thoughts below.
Interview With Theil Edwards
Saturday night you square off with Yassine Adjadj for the BA middleweight championship. How much more motivation, desire, and hunger in your belly when going through them gruelling sessions knowing there’s gold on the line?
Honestly, the gold doesn’t really excite me. It’s the opportunity to get in there and put my will and hunger up against someone else who’s worthy of championship status.
So far this year, you have dropped two decisions, unanimous and split. Where’s the mindset at leading into Saturday night, and upon reflection, how are you viewing them fights, and what went wrong on those nights?
I could come out with many reasons why those fights didn’t go my way, but at the end of the day, those bouts didn’t go my way, and all I can do is take the lessons learnt and move on to the next but to give you an answer. I’d say I allowed those guys to fight their fight and not my own.
Yassine Adjadj is the man you’ll face, which wasn’t always the plan. How much has the late opponent switch affected your preparation? Overall, how do you feel about the change?
Aahhh man, this is nothing new to me. I get more pull-outs than not. It’s definitely frustrating usually, but in this instance, I’m excited because I have got a more experienced and dangerous opponent to deal with. Yas has definitely put a battery in my back in comparison to Labrador, but I can’t say I’m surprised he pulled out.
Theil Edwards on Recapturing Gold
If successful on fight night, It will mark your second time attaining BA middleweight gold. How do you view belts at this level? Many fighters are extremely motivated and happy by attaining amateur belts, then some brush it off. Where do you sit, and what would it mean to you to get that back?
As I said, the trophy itself doesn’t excite me it’s the effect of the trophy that gets me buzzing because I know it puts me in a position to fight the best amateur’s in my division and other organisations, Tom Breese said some profound shit last Saturday at GTFP 23 he said “these young fighters nowadays fall in love with the belts and status but to be successful in this game you have to fall in love with the process of fighting and the belts will follow” and when he said that It confirmed I really do love this shit cause I’ve always gotten excited for the opportunity to perform.
Yassine Adjadj has garnered a fair bit of amateur experience during his time competing. Having watched tape of his previous fights, where do you feel his strengths and weaknesses lie? Is there anything that jumps out at you?
I mean, I watched each of his fights once, and I’d say his strength is he’s got that dawg in him. He’s always aiming to finish, and he seems to not know how to quit. Not to mention he’s beaten and lost to some good fighters, but I’m not going to talk about weaknesses. I’ll just expose them on Saturday for the world to see Insha’allah.
Final Thoughts
Finally, for the readers and the fans who will be attending on Saturday night. Tell them what they are in for.
Like I said when I was set to fight lil Labrador “ I intend on dominating whether it’s by KO or unanimous decision, that’s the only way I intend on letting this fight play out.”
