It only took Themba Gorimbo 32 seconds to show the world that he is ready for a championship shot after his first finish inside the UFC.
With Themba Gorimbo’s first round knockout win of Pete Rodriguez he made a statement with a thunderous right hand which landed so perfectly, dropping Rodriguez. Gorimbo pounced and followed up with some vicious ground-and-pound shots, putting a statement out to his division that he is ready for the next step.
In his post-fight interview Themba told the media after his fight that he is ready for the baddest of the UFC Welterweights that the company has to offer.
“This is business. Mr. Sean Shelby, I’d like the biggest opportunities,” Themba Gorimbo said in his post-fight interview. “I know that when we get out of here, probably I’m getting the biggest contract but I wanna fight the baddest guys. And I want to become the champion in 2024. I’m here to win and become the champ, in 2024. Whether it’s Leon or Rakhmonov, it does not matter, I’m going to beat them.”
Themba Gorimbo Will Need to Run The Welterweight Gauntlet
Unfortunately for Themba Gorimbo the Welterweight division is so stacked that after one contender falls, another is ready to take their place. The top five alone is full of some killers looking to dethrone Leon Edwards. Themba Gorimbo would need to run the gauntlet against former champ Kamaru Usman, Belal Muhammad, Shavkat Rakhmonov and Gilbert Burns.
Themba Gorimbo could potentially see a rank beside his name real soon after the ranking committee unveils their new list.
It is uncertain if we will see Themba Gorimbo fight for a championship soon, but anything can happen in the world of fighting and if he is lucky enough to get a phone call from the UFC if a title challenger pulls out, he could jump the rankings really quickly and have a shot at fulfilling his dream of being a champion.
For Gorimbo, anything is possible. His story of once coming from illegally mining diamonds in Zimbawe and only having seven dollars in his bank account leading up to his first UFC fight has touched many fight fans’ hearts. Along the start of his journey to becoming a world champion, Hollywood and WWE superstar Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson bought him a house in Florida and if that wasn’t enough, he also got a sweet sponsorship deal from The Rock with his ZOA Energy company.
