Former WBO super welterweight champion Tim Tszyu will fight IBF super welterweight Bakhram Murtazaliev. The fight was announced by PBC on their social media such as on Twitter. The fight will take place 19th October at the Caribe Royal and will be available exclusively PrimeVideo.
Tszyu vs Murtazaliev
Bakhram Murtazaliev himself only recently became IBF champion at 154lbs this year against Jack Culcay. The fight was for the vacant title. Tim Tszyu became the WBO champ in 2023 against Brian Mendoza. However, he lost the championship against Sebastian Fundora which he was doing well in however after suffering a major cut in round 2 he really struggled.
There were talks of a rematch with Fundora given the way the cut impacted Tszyu in the fight. However it never materialsed as talks emerged of Errol Spence vs Fundora. A fight was then made for Tszyu vs Vergil Ortiz Jr scheduled for the Crawford vs Madrimov card but Tszyu couldn’t be cleared medically due to his cut from Fundora. And now it appears Crawford will fight Fundora at some point in a unification.
So now Tszyu has the chance to become a champion again and he has a good chance. Tim Tszyu takes after his father the legendary former champion Kosta Tszyu and is very skilled fighter. Also, Tszyu has impressive wins over Brian Mendoza, Tony Harrison, Takeshi Inoue, and Jeff Horn. That being said Murtazaliev is no slouch being undefeated and winning 16 of his 22 fights by KO.
The fight should be a good one and we will look forward to seeing Tim Tszyu back in the ring.
