UFC heavyweight interim champion Tom Aspinall isn’t letting Henry Cejudo’s recent remarks get under his skin. Making a quick turnaround earlier this month at UFC 295, Aspinall filled in for the canceled Jon Jones vs. Stipe Miocic bout, taking on Sergei Pavlovich and securing a first-round TKO victory that earned him the interim title.
After the win, Aspinall shared a heartfelt moment, placing the interim title on his father’s shoulder. While the gesture resonated positively with many, it didn’t sit well with Henry Cejudo, who suggested Aspinall should save such celebrations for an undisputed title win.
In a recent interview on Michael Bisping’s YouTube channel, Aspinall responded to Cejudo’s comments with a nonchalant and lighthearted attitude. “It doesn’t bother me what he says, mate,” Aspinall remarked, injecting humor into the situation. “To be honest, he’s about five foot three. If he spoke, I probably wouldn’t hear him. That’s how far away he is from me. So yeah, it doesn’t matter. I reckon [my dad] would [take] him.”
Tom Aspinall Addresses Henry Cejudo’s Comments
Acknowledging Cejudo’s attempt in grabbing headlines, Aspinall downplayed the comments, saying, “He’s trying to get headlines, obviously. Ah, whatever. We’ve all been there, Mike, haven’t we? Fair enough, I’m not really bothered by it… It doesn’t bother me. What bothers me is when someone I know has my number and they want to go online to beef it up. If you’ve got an issue and you’ve got some questions, give me a ring.”
With his recent victory and lighthearted response to Henry Cejudo’s comments, Tom Aspinall is not only securing his place as the UFC heavyweight interim champion but also making waves as the third British UFC champion. Joining the ranks of Michael Bisping and current UFC welterweight champion Leon Edwards, Aspinall’s meteoric rise showcases the growing prominence of British talent in the world of mixed martial arts.
