Tom Aspinall has confirmed that he has agreed to terms for a fight with Jon Jones, with more details coming soon.
The interim heavyweight champion has been chasing Jones and his undisputed title for nearly two years. Despite Jones’ objections, it appears Dana White is set to make the fight happen in 2025.
This matchup has been labelled as potentially the biggest heavyweight clash in UFC history, pitting one of the greatest fighters of all time against a larger and seemingly unstoppable contender. If Aspinall has his way, the fight will take place sooner rather than later.
Tom Aspinall Confirms Jon Jones Fight Is Close
For the past few months, Tom Aspinall has been clear about his willingness to accept whatever deal comes for a fight with Jon Jones. He’s played the media game well, carefully selecting his outlets for interviews and keeping the fight in the public eye.
In a recent update on his YouTube channel, Aspinall revealed that a fight deal could be coming soon. He told fans this when he said;
“I’m just waiting at the minute,”
“I’ve said yes to the fight, I’ve agreed to it, obviously.”
“Now, I’m just waiting for his side and the UFC to finalize things. I’m focused on training to be as fit as possible. Who knows? They might announce the date soon, or it might be six months down the line.”
“That’s just how it goes—fights are always uncertain. But I’m preparing now, getting my body and mind in sync for the next opponent. There’s no set date yet, but the opponent is there, so we’re just staying ready. We should find out soon, maybe in a couple of weeks. It’s all good.”
Joe Rogan Corrects $30 Million Jon Jones Rumour After Dana White Clarification
Reports from a Joe Rogan podcast suggested that Jon Jones could earn around $30 million for a fight with Tom Aspinall. Jones had previously stated that he would need “f*** you money” to face Aspinall, making the outcome of the fight irrelevant. However, after these reports spread, Rogan issued a correction, clarifying that Dana White contacted him to clarify the rumour wasn’t true.
Speaking with Theo Von, Rogan explained;
“I have to correct something from a conversation I had with Yannis Pappis and Chris DiStefano. We were talking about Jon Jones, and I heard a rumour that Jones wanted $30 million to fight Aspinall. I did hear that rumour, and I heard the UFC agreed.”
“But it’s not true. Dana called me and said the rumour is bulls***. I felt obligated to tell everyone it was fake. I don’t even remember who told me that because the podcast was two weeks ago.”
