Tom Aspinall has continued to poke the bear that is UFC heavyweight champion Jon Jones, and this time he get’s a response.
In the world of UFC, the call-outs are as much a part of the game as the fights themselves, and recently, Tom Aspinall has been making headlines with his persistent call-outs to Jon Jones. Despite the fact that a fight between the two seems unlikely in the near future, the social media exchanges between the interim heavyweight champion and the former light heavyweight kingpin have added fuel to the already blazing fire of anticipation.
Aspinall, who claimed the interim heavyweight title at UFC 295, has been openly targeting a showdown with Jones. However, with Jones recovering from elbow surgery and a highly anticipated clash with Stipe Miocic on the horizon, the matchup with Aspinall is not on the immediate horizon.
Jones, ever the provocateur, responded to Aspinall’s call-out after the latter posted a video illustrating himself aging while waiting for the fight. Jones questioned Aspinall’s knowledge of his opponents, stating, “I have no clue who 90% of his résumé is.” Aspinall fired back, accusing Jones of letting his ego run wild.
UFC Heavyweight Jon Jones Fires Back at Tom Aspinall
The tension continued to rise when Jones addressed Aspinall’s frustration, asserting, “It doesn’t really work like that. I was a champion when I was 23 years old; you can’t show up at age 30 pretending like you’ve been chasing me your whole life.”
Aspinall, undeterred, responded by acknowledging Jones’s incredible résumé but emphasizing his desire to face the best: “Jon, you’re letting your ego run wild here, mate. I’m not downplaying your résumé; it’s incredible. Far superior to mine. You are known as the best fighter ever, and that’s EXACTLY why I want to beat you. Surely, you can understand that?”
Respect for The King
While the verbal jabs continue to fly, it’s essential to note that Jones last entered the Octagon in March 2023, securing a victory against Ciryl Gane at UFC 285. Currently recovering from a pectoral injury that led to his withdrawal from the Miocic fight at UFC 295, Jones has also undergone elbow surgery. Providing updates on his recovery, Jones mentioned, “Sometimes you have to take a small step back to move forward, and I’m patient.”
As the narrative unfolds, one thing remains certain – the potential clash between Tom Aspinall and Jon Jones has garnered attention and stirred excitement among fans. While the fight may not be imminent, the verbal exchanges on social media are keeping the anticipation alive.
