Tom Aspinall has already predicted the winner in preparation for Ian Machado Garry versus Michael “Venom” Page, which will take place at UFC 303. As former training partners, the current interim heavyweight champion of the UFC was led to reside with his fellow Brit.
Tom Aspinall Predicts Michael “Venom” Page To Beat Ian Machado Garry
After Dana White revealed that Machado Garry and MVP are set to lock horns on 29th June at UFC 303 in Las Vegas, Aspinall was quick to have his say on the outcome when talking to Joe Leigh.
During the interview on Title Sport Network’s YouTube channel, Aspinall claimed he “likes both guys”, but is putting faith in his compatriot to get the job done.
Aspinall said: “I think I give MVP the edge on it. I think he’s very, very smart. He’s very, very tricky. As someone who’s trained with him, obviously there’s a big size discrepancy between the two, but I can see the way he moves, and I can feel the way he moves. He moves so well, and he’s so unpredictable. His grappling is massively underrated.”
How Do Both Fighters Benefit From This Matchup?
Many believed that Colby Covington vs Ian Garry was set for UFC 303, following their heated exchanges online. However, “Chaos” never seemed committed, so in steps MVP.
After a stunning display in his UFC debut, defeating Kevin Holland via unanimous decision at UFC 299, the 37-year-old will continue to climb the division if he can overcome the number seven ranked welterweight, Garry.
Although there are many potential positive outcomes for Page, less can be said for Garry. The undefeated Irishman had an underwhelming performance last time out at UFC 298, albeit edging Geoff Neal to a split-decision victory. At UFC 303, he will need to be more convincing to get past a supreme striker like Page.
The welterweight prospect has repeatedly disclosed how MVP’s low ranking will not do him any good. Fighting an esteemed opponent like MVP, however, will give Garry due credit for taking tough matchups, even when there is a lack of availability in the division.
Although the pros and cons arguably outweigh each other between both fighters, the fans will get to witness one of the most exciting striking matchups in recent history.
