English heavyweight contender Tom Aspinall is back in action on July 22nd after what will be almost a year out due to injury. After a nightmare end to the night for the brit in July 2022 he has taken a year out recovering from a horrific knee injury. He was recently speaking on the BT Sport YouTube channel about his return and his time outside the Octagon.
Returning to the Crime Scene
Tom Aspinall will walk to the very same octagon almost exactly a year to the day after a freak knee injury ended his main event fight with Curtis Blaydes in only 15 seconds back in UFC London. Marcin Tybura will be the opponent for Aspinall, a man who was the backup for the Englishmen’s first UFC main event against Alexander Volkov. Speaking to BT Sport Aspinall had this to say regarding the return to the O2.
“I feel like I need to go back to the O2 Arena and absolutely spark someone, and I’m itching to do it to like right that wrong. I want to knock someone out in the O2 Arena” “I couldn’t be happier that they’re putting me on the O2, as a main event as well. The same spot that it happened. Almost a year later to the day.”
The motivation to redeem himself in emphatic and violent fashion is clear for all to see.
Igniting His Passion
Aspinall went on to say how the injury affected him and how he now feels like a completely different person after the surgery. “I think before, everything was going well and I was just blasé about the whole thing.” Aspinall stated “I didn’t realize how much I loved this sport and how much I want to do it until it was potentially taken away from me. I had no idea how much I am desperate for greatness until it was almost taken away from me. Now I wake up every morning and I can’t wait to go to the gym and train.” A reignited fire inside the heavyweight has made him eliminate anything external that will not aid his journey to be UFC heavyweight king.
Future Endeavours for Tom Aspinall
The future for Tom Aspinall will undeniably feature the UFC title picture and exciting fights along the course. If successful in July against Tybura, the brit will be pushing for at least one more bout before the end of the year. Potentially if it is an injury free victory we could see a quick turnaround onto the UFC 293 card in Australia against Tai Tuivasa in a thrilling contest. Additionally, with a few violent finishes Aspinall could erupt into the heavyweight title landscape in 2024 and any fight involving Tuivasa is violent.
