It’s official. Tom Aspinall will fight Marcin Tybura at the next UFC London event on July 22nd. it will take place at the O2 Arena and will mark the third time that Tom Aspinall will headline a UFC London event.
This fight announcement was one of the worst kept secrets in MMA. At the Q&A fan event at UFC 286, Aspinall himself confirmed that he planned to headline the next London event in July, and that Tybura had been calling for the fight on social media. Combined with the fact that most of the other top 15 heavyweights either have fights booked, or have been beaten by Aspinall already made the Tybura fight the most likely outcome.
The Comeback
The fight will take place almost one year to the day since Aspinall sustained a devastating knee injury in his loss to Curtis Blaydes. He is looking to bounce back against a tough Tybura who is arguably in the prime of his career. He has won his last two fights, and seven out of his last eight. This streak has earned him a top 10 ranking in the division. An impressive statement win should put Aspinall into the mix for a title eliminator before the end of the year.
Perhaps the toughest battle for Aspinall however will be the mental one. He is returning to the scene of the lowest ebb of his professional career. But he doesn’t need to look far for inspiration. Recently, Aspinall expressed how Jon Jones’ return was incredibly motivating for him, and will look to draw upon that as he is setting his sights towards the top of the UFC’s marquee division once again.
Now that the fight is official, fans can focus on getting tickets to be in attendance for Aspinall’s return. You can sign up for early access at UFC.com/London.
