UFC Interim Heavyweight champion Tom Aspinall named the one skill possessed by a fellow UFC fighter that he wants to acquire.
British brawler Tom Aspinall has torn his way through the UFC Heavyweight division in dominant style. The 31-year-old has only lost once in the UFC when he sustained a knee injury against Curtis Blaydes in 2022.
The injury was so devastating it was speculated whether Aspinall would ever return to competition. However, the injury did not phase Aspinall’s momentum as he has continued his rampage since returning.
Since 2022 he has fought 3 times, finishing all three fights in the first round by knockout. Going on to claim the interim Heavyweight title after defeating Sergei Pavlovich at UFC 295 and avenging his loss to Curtis Blaydes at UFC 304.
Holding a total career fight time of 41 minutes, averaging 2 minutes and 2 seconds per fight, Aspinall doesn’t waste time in the cage. Given his dominance fans and Aspinall himself have been relentlessly calling for him to fight Heavyweight champion Jon Jones.
Jones is yet to oblige and is currently booked to fight Stipe Miocic at UFC 309. With Jones on the brink of retirement, it is uncertain whether Aspinall will unify his interim belt against Jones.
For all his greatness, Tom Aspinall believes that Bantamweight champion Merab Dvalishvili possesses one skill that he could add to his arsenal.
Tom Aspinall Shares What Skill He’d Like to Add to His Arsenal: “I Think It’s Physically Impossible”
Tom Aspinall shared on his YouTube channel a Q&A series called “Ask Tom” in which he answered fans’ questions. He explained how he hopes he never has to show his whole skillset if he doesn’t need to, why he doesn’t have a fighter nickname and spoke about his famous “Aspinall Burger”.
But one answer that stood out was when he was asked what skill from any UFC fighter past or present would he want to have, He answered:
“I’ll take Merab’s gas tank. I think it’s physically impossible at heavyweight, but if I could take that, I’d have that one.”
Due to Heavyweight fighters’ size, having the stamina of Merab Dvalishvili would seem unlikely. But with Aspinall’s natural fast-finishing ability, he may never need to rely on his cardio in the octagon.
Tom Aspinall’s return to the octagon is highly anticipated. It seems he will wait until the conclusion of UFC 309 before being booked to fight next.
But will he get his dream fight with Jon Jones, or will Jones hang up the gloves?
