Tonight’s UFC 295 card featured a heavyweight interim title bout between Tom Aspinall and Sergei Pavlovich.
The fight occurred on short notice due to the monumental clash between Jon Jones and Stipe Miocic falling through.
The contest between Aspinall and Pavlovich promised to be an instant classic on paper. Both fighters are rising stars, and this fight was deemed a changing off the guard type bout. Both men possess deadly skills on the feet, as well as on the ground, but who’s skillset would come out on top?
Aspinall has shown that he has everything to become an absolute star in the UFC. The Englishman has a professional record of 13-3, with none of his fights going the distance. He is an all-round fighter and is comfortable wherever the fight takes place. The 30-year-old has put on entertaining performances throughout his career. Aspinall is coming off a statement victory against Marcin Tybura in London. His latest win was even more impressive because he was coming off a devastating injury.
Tom Aspinall Stops Pavlovich in Round One at UFC 294
Pavlovich is a dominating force inside the Octagon and a real problem for the rest of the division. The 31-year-old has a professional record of 18-1 with 15 knockouts leading into tonight’s meeting. He is coming off a massive victory against Curtis Blaydes, where he knocked him out in the first round. Pavlovich isn’t eager to put those extra rounds in, with most of his wins coming in the first round.
Tom Aspinall is a name fans will now remember for a very long time. After stepping in on two-weeks notice, Aspinall stopped Pavlovich in the first-round, becoming the new heavyweight interim champion. Aspinall ate a powerful shot from Pavlovich in the first exchange, which caught his attention, but moments after, he switched on and made history.
