Despite Tommy Fury’s pullout announcement, the event’s promoter still believes the fight will happen on January 18th in Manchester. Despite Fury’s claims, KSI, who co-owns Misfits with business partner Mams Taylor, seems confident the fight will go ahead.
KSI, who previously fought Fury and lost by unanimous decision in last year’s Prime Card main event, seems to be relishing the opportunity to assert himself as a sort of boss to his former rival.
Tommy Fury Announces Fight with Darren Till Is Off Due to Rule Disputes
At last month’s press conference for Tommy Fury and Darren Till’s fight, tensions were high between the two fighters. The former UFC welterweight title contender jokingly remarked that if he were losing, he would simply throw a kick and knockout his opponent.
Despite his management insisting he would forfeit his purse if he actually broke the rules, Fury has now taken to Instagram to announce that the fight is off by saying;
“I can’t believe I’m writing this, but I am no longer fighting Darren Till on January 18th, 2025,”
“The reason is simple: Darren has repeatedly stated that he won’t follow professional boxing rules and that if he’s losing, he’ll resort to kicking and other ridiculous MMA tactics.”
“I’m a professional boxer, and I’ve been out of the ring for over a year. I wanted this to be a great boxing fight for the fans, but I’ve wasted weeks in training camp.”
“We’re working hard to find a new opponent and date. I promise we’ll deliver a better opponent and a better fight for you all. Good news is coming soon.”
KSI Responds to Tommy Fury’s Fight Withdrawal Claim: ‘Relax and Prepare for January
After reading Fury’s claim that the fight was off, KSI took to X to assert that the fight would still go ahead. He laughed at the suggestion that the fight would be cancelled over the threat of a head kick. The YouTuber tweeted to his 8.9 million followers that stated;
“Tommy Fury is scared of getting kicked in a boxing match hahaha,”
“Darren Till is not gonna kick you, mate. Relax and prepare for your fight in January on Misfits.”
Fans pointed out that Fury made a similar remark about Till ahead of his fight with KSI last year, when KSI’s win was overturned after an illegal elbow in his bout with Joe Fournier. In response, Fury had jokingly practised elbows in a promo video.
Darren Till Responds to Tommy’s Pull out: ‘I’m Still Main Eventing on January 18th
Darren Till has remained outspoken since the fight was reportedly cancelled. He revealed that his team was informed of the pullout on Sunday and insisted that he would still be fighting on the scheduled date, at the same venue.
A-side in this event, which means he was getting paid more and had the authority to call the shots, as he should. He is the boxer and the bigger name. So, if he didn’t want to fight me, he could’ve chosen someone else. But that is not happening and Tommy has pulled out, and I’m still the main event on that date. Now I am the A-side, and I’m calling the shots. We are already looking for a new opponent.
Darren Till’s latest post on X read: “Just to make it clear, Tommy Fury was the A-side in this event, which means he was getting paid more and had the authority to call the shots, as he should. He’s the boxer and the bigger name. So, if he didn’t want to fight me, he could’ve chosen someone else. But that’s not happening—Tommy has pulled out, and I’m still the main event on that date. Now I’m the A-side, and I’m calling the shots. We’re already looking for a new opponent.”
“I’ve always followed the rules of fighting. I was hyping up the fight with Tommy, saying things I knew would scare him because deep down I knew he’s not a real fighter. Now it’s clear, what I said is true—he’s pulled out and revealed his true colours.”
“See you all on January 18th because no matter what, I’ll be there. I’ve always shown up, and I always will for the fans, whether you like me or not. Someone find John Fury for me, though, because he’s not answering the phone—probably busy butting heads with young coaches or punching glass.”
