Michael B. Jordan makes his directorial debut while also starring as the lead role in the latest instalment of the Rocky franchise Creed 3. The Rocky spin-off films have been a financial success at the box office, so far grossing over $350,000,000. Creed 3 looks to be having the same commercial success as its predecessors, as it’s currently on track to knocking Ant-Man off the top spot at the box office this weekend. The first Creed film came out eight years ago, and Jordan is more passionate than ever to carry on the legacy of the original Rocky movies.
British boxing legend Tony Bellew, who plays “Pretty” Ricky Conlan in the Creed films, spoke to Jordan on his BBC Sounds show ahead of the release of Creed 3.
Tony Bellew Wants Michael B. Jordan to Get in the Ring Outside of Creed 3
On the podcast, Bellew talks about how if he trained Jordan for a fight, there would be no doubt he would win, purely based on the actor’s athletic ability and incredible work ethic. The former WBC champion also mentions the ease with which he believes the actor could beat the Youtube boxers. Here’s how the conversation went.
Tony Bellew: “I genuinely and truly believe I could train you for a fight, and you would win. There would be no question about it. First of all, you’ve got the work ethic, it’s in ya’, you work so hard, (and) your smart. Ultimately, as an athlete, purely as an athletic specimen, your fast-twitch fibres are second to none. You can react real quick. You took to boxing real quickly.”
“Considering you’ve never been punched in the face before by a professional boxer, and to have someone, literally within a couple of centimetres, come past your face, there were times you didn’t flinch, and there were times you rolled with it. I genuinely think you could have a fight and win. But the question is Mike, would you do it?
Michael B. Jordan: “You know what, I contemplated it a couple of times. And that’s just the lunacy of I guess actors.”
Tony Bellew: “You would smoke some of these fools on the Youtube circuit, Mike you would, I’m not playing.”
Michael B. Jordan: “I mean, listen, I kinda feel the same way.” Jordan replies while laughing.
With all the influencer boxing that’s been going on over the past few years, could we see the Hollywood A-lister step into the ring?
