Dana White confirms Tony ‘El Cucuy’ Ferguson is fighting ‘The Leech’ Li Jingliang at UFC 279.
After a monumental night in Salt Lake City for UFC 278, Dana announced at the post-fight press conference that fan favourite Tony Ferguson is making his anticipated return at Welterweight. This fight will take place at UFC 279 on Sept 10th, where he will face off against the rising Chinese star Li Jingliang.
Ferguson, who is coming off of 4 straight losses against the top guys of the lightweight division, is looking to get back on track in a big way. The Ultimate Fighter prodigy will compete in the division where he earned his contract into the UFC welterweight.
Tony Ferguson has made big changes when it comes to his camp as he is training at the world-renowned Jackson Wink MMA in hopes that he can get back to winning ways. Before his four straight losses, Tony had an impressive 12-fight win streak in arguably the toughest division in the UFC. His return to welterweight could prove to be a fresh start for him at a new camp and is expected to be a must-watch fight.
However, this will not be an easy task as Li Jingliang is coming off a Performance of the Night where he knocked out Muslim Salikhov in his last fight. ‘The Leech’ is 2-2 in his last four fights, with his losses coming to the rising superstar of Khamzat Chimaev and Neil Magny.
How do you think this fight will play out? Will Tony get back on track with a signature performance, or will ‘The Leech’ add a big name to his resume?
