Tony Purcell is coming into his Almighty Fighting Championship 32 bout with bad intentions.
Purcell will face-off with the debuting Liam Czernozukow and he believes it’s going to be a “mauling”. The heavyweight’s last time on Almighty didn’t go to plan, therefore he’s eager to give an accurate representation of himself this time around in Deeside, Wales.
We had the pleasure of speaking with Tony Purcell ahead of fight night. Hear what he had to say below.
Interview With Tony Purcell
Tony, you’re returning to action next week at Almighty Fighting Championship. How are you feeling physically and mentally ahead of your return?
I’m feeling great. Both mentally and physically, and I am really looking forward to getting back in on 4th November.
We’ve not seen you in a competitive MMA setting since 2021, when you debuted. Where have you been, and why long lay-off?
I have been matched about 4/5 times since the last Almighty show, but injury, pull-outs, and show cancellations have scuppered my fight time. It’s frustrating, to say the least, but there’s not much we can do about that.
The last time you competed on Almighty FC, it didn’t go your way. Upon reflection, where’s your head at with that loss, and is that completely cleared from your mind as we close in on fight night?
The last time I was on AlmightyFC obviously didn’t go to plan, and I was left feeling frustrated because that’s definitely not a true reflection of me as a fighter. It is what it is. Show some minerals and brush it off.
I’ve actually been back in the cage since the fight with Josh Carrick, which was a 1st round submission win last June. So the Almighty loss doesn’t enter my mind at all, completely out of my system.
What do you feel you need to do to ensure the outcome is different this time?
This time around, without giving too much away, I need to do what I do in the gym week in and week out. I’ve got some great training partners, along with my head coach, Carl Evans, and they’ve brought my game on to another level, and confidence is high.
Liam Czernozukow is the man you’ll meet next Saturday. What do you know about him, if anything?
I don’t know very much about Liam, tbh. I do believe it’s his debut. That won’t change my mindset one bit. I’ll be putting on a clinic.
What can those attending expect to see from you at AFC 34?
Fans can expect to see a fast-paced mauling.
For those who expect the same version of you to turn up that did in your debut, what would you have to say to them?
The last thing to say to everyone coming is don’t blink.
