9-0-0 Middleweight Torrez Finney makes shock return to Dana White’s Contender Series ten days after competing on the show
Undefeated highly touted prospect Torrez “The Punisher” Finney has grown a cult following recently. Whether it is his physique, his 5’8″ stature compared to his typically taller opponents or his explosive highlight reel Finney took the internet by storm.
He first appeared on Dana White’s Contender Series (DWCS) in October of last year submitting Yuri Panferov in the 2nd round. Though emerging victorious the boss White saw holes in Finney’s game.
Dana instructed Torrez to get more experience and return to the Contender Series. Finney did that when he knocked Tyson Jeffries out cold in the first round.
Finney then struggled to find a fight only fighting once but still, he got a call up to DWCS again. August 20th on series 8, week 2 of DWCS Torrez Finney fought the much taller, dangerous City Kickboxing prospect Cam “Van Damme” Rowston.
Finney overcame a major height discrepancy, drowning Rowston with his wrestle-heavy style. For all his dominance Finney did not show any evolution to his game and yet again was denied a contract to the UFC.
However, all hope is not lost for “The Punisher.”
Torrez Finney Makes Surprise Return to Contender Series
In the words of Dana White, “You get absolutely decimated in the UFC with the performance you put on tonight.” Referring to his unanimous decision victory over Rowston White was again unimpressed with Finney.
Regardless of White’s honest words for Torrez Finney, he has another crack at a UFC contract sooner than expected. Lucky for Finney Logan Woods has withdrawn from his October 1st DWCS bout against Abdellah Er-Ramy.
Torrez will be keen to show that he is more than just a wrestler and put the finishing touches on his DWCS journey. Being his third shot at DWCS one may think it is now or never for Finney to show up.
But it will be no walk in the park. Abdellah Er-Ramy 7-1-0 is a problem riding a six-fight win streak with four of those wins coming by stoppage.
This time around will Torrez Finney do enough to impress the boss on October 1st?
