Boxing fans can now mark their calendars. Anthony Joshua and Daniel Dubois are gearing up for their rematch, and the date has been confirmed.
The boxing spotlight turned to Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, last night, where Artur Beterbiev secured his status as the undisputed light heavyweight champion. He claimed victory over Dmitry Bivol by unanimous decision, but the fight stirred up quite a debate. Many ringside observers felt that Bivol deserved the win, and some even suggested that a draw would have been a fairer outcome. In light of the close match, Bivol has made it clear that he is eager for a rematch with Beterbiev.
Turki Alalshikh, a prominent figure in the boxing scene, is likely to play a crucial role in making that rematch happen. Alalshikh has been instrumental in organizing several high-profile boxing matches, often moving things along that had previously stalled for too long. As an adviser to the Royal Court of Saudi Arabia, he has the connections and authority to push significant bouts forward.
After last night’s event, Alalshikh expressed his intention to facilitate the rematch for the light heavyweight title. But that’s not all. He also shared details about the upcoming fight between Anthony Joshua and Daniel Dubois.
Turki Alalshikh Announces Date for Anthony Joshua vs. Daniel Dubois Rematch
Eddie Hearn, Joshua’s promoter, has already outlined plans for a rematch, and now it seems we have a specific date. According to reports from The Mirror, Turki Alalshikh has confirmed when the rematch will take place.
He mentioned that he believed Bivol had won his recent fight by at least two rounds, but now his focus is on making a rematch between Beterbiev and Bivol happen. Moving forward, Alalshikh has revealed that February 22, 2025, is the target date for the highly anticipated clash between Anthony Joshua and Daniel Dubois.
Additionally, this fight could feature an exciting undercard event. There are plans for a 5v5 rematch between Queensbury Promotions and Matchroom, making for a potentially stacked card.
For Joshua, this rematch presents an opportunity to avenge his previous loss to Dubois. In their first encounter, Dubois stunned the boxing world with a remarkable knockout victory over AJ. Now, Joshua will be looking to set the record straight come February 22.
