Tyson Fury is set to fight Francis Ngannou this Saturday and reveals there is no rematch clause in the contract.
Tyson Fury is the current WBC heavyweight champion and set to face the former UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou this Saturday October 23rd in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The fight will have the WBC Commemorative Riyadh Championship on the line. This fight is being called the “Battle of the Baddest”. The Gypsy King is entering Saturday as a massive betting favorite to no surprise. However, with the punching power The Predator has, he’s been saying to not rule him out right so quick.
“As we stand today, there is no rematch clause either way. If he knocks me out cold on Saturday night, I’ll have to beg him, like please give me a rematch,” Tyson Fury said.
Tyson Fury revealed that in the contract there is no rematch clause, even if Francis Ngannou wins.
Tyson Fury Hates Rematch Clauses
Tyson Fury recently was on the MMA hour and revealed the details as to why there is no rematch clause. Even if Francis Ngannou shocks the boxing world and beats Fury, it would be up to Ngannou if would like to have a rematch. The big reason why the Gypsy King doesn’t like rematch clause because it takes something away from the first fight.
“I hate rematch clauses, rematch clauses have tied my career up so long, and cost me a lot of millions of dollars in court cases. I always say we don’t need a rematch (clause). If the first fight is good then both participants will surely want a rematch. If it’s a shit fight, then it’s not deserving of a rematch,” Tyson Fury said. “So, I hate when champions do this rematch clause, obviously, I know why, it’s a double payday. But, they go into the first fight and they already announce there is a rematch clause, so it takes all the emphasis off the first fight, no one cares about the first fight. There’s a rematch clause anyway, let’s see who wins the second fight, that’s the one that really counts.”
Fury believes if everyone knows the person who loses will trigger the rematch clause then the importance of the first fight has less significance. That is one of the reasons that the Usyk fight was taking long to negotiate.
Tyson Fury (33-0-1) won his last fight by TKO versus Derek Chisora. While Francis Ngannou last fought at UFC 270 in January 2022 against Cyril Gane where he won by decision.
