The ex Lineal heavyweight champion of the world Tyson Fury has announced his retirement this afternoon.
Tyson Fury has decided to retire from the sport of boxing after his recent second loss to Uysk in Saudi Arabia.
Fury posted a video on X this afternoon announcing this.
“Hi everybody. I’m gonna make this short and sweet. I’d like to announce my retirement from boxing. It’s been a blast. I’ve loved every single minute of it, and i’m gonna end with this. Dick Turpin wore a mask. God bless everybody. See you on the other side. Get up!!!”
The decision to retire has come as a shock to the boxing world just days after Anthony Joshua called Fury out for there long awaited matchup.
Tyson Fury Leave Joshua And Hearn Surprised-
Both Anthony Joshua and Eddie Hearn were very hopeful of creating the bout for Wembley Stadium.
“Yes. We’re looking to get back in the ring in May or June. If it ended up being July, it doesn’t really matter.”
Hearn then went on to say it was all dependent on Tyson Fury’s future.
“I still think it rests on Tyson Fury. Until the water settles on the defeat and where he’s at mentally and what he wants to do, that’s where we’re really going to find out.”
Anthony Joshua was very keen on taking on Fury this year saying that it had to happen this year.
“It has to happen this year. Especially with His Excellency Turki, DAZN, Eddie, Matchroom, 258 behind me. And him being managed by Spencer and Goldstar, I think we can definitely make this fight happen.”
Joshua went on to say he wants to “leave the game with a bang”.
“So what I want to do is leave the game with a bang and make an impact.
“Be outlandish, a great character, have fun with it while we’re doing it and go for the big fights. Tyson Fury is one of them.
“Every time I see people they say: ‘When you fighting Fury?’ The Irish community, English community, Nigerian community, everyone is asking me the same question.
“As a fighter, it’s up to me to deliver. It has to happen this year.”
Back to back losses have taken a toll on Tyson Fury and his family even admitting he hadn’t spoken to his wife for months before the second Usyk bout.
Tyson Fury leaves the sport with a 34-2-1 record and will no doubt leave boxing as one of the greats but will always have the Joshua Vs Fury question hanging over his head.
