Canada Oh Canada! The Octagon finally returns to Canada with UFC 289 in Vancouver. We’ve delivered our UFC 289: Nunes vs. Aldana best bets guide.
Fights have fallen off and the card no longer looks as appetizing, but fights are fights and action will be had. Charles Oliveira and Beneil Dariush stand out in what should be a banger. Ignoring the excitement, we are here to find value in the betting markets, so let us do just that.
BET #1 – Miranda Maverick/Blade Bilder Parlay -110
Let us start with a rare parlay. Parlays are extremely difficult to win long term, but sometimes value sticks out. Beginning with Miranda Maverick, she has tons of advantages in her matchup. The striking looks levels apart and the wrestling and grappling should favor Miranda as well.
Blake Bilder is seemingly getting a favorable matchup from the UFC with Kyle Nelson. Bilder will have a big power advantage and wrestling in his back pocket. The advantages stick out large enough to want some form of action on Bilder.
Both of the fighters in the parlay provide good value but large lines. Bringing them together for a near-even price makes this easier to stomach and still feels like a winning wager.
BET #2 – Chris Curtis/Nassourdine Imavov Over 2.5 Rounds -175
Next up brings us a very tight matchup between two primary strikers. Both of these guys constantly sit near the 10-20 range of the Middleweight rankings. One more thing they share in common is their excellent durability.
These men have their fair share of finish wins but do not get finished themselves very often. This makes the -175 line pretty solid in what should be a tit-for-tat striking match. Picking a side in this one is very tough but counting on these guys to last 15 minutes gets us excited.
BET #3 – Amanda Nunes Inside the Distance -130
The Women’s GOAT returns at UFC 289 in a semi-short notice matchup for Irene Aldana. The Julianna Pena trilogy was expected before Pena had to withdraw. Aldana brings a new skillset being much more of a striker than Pena while lacking in the grappling. Aldana has had some questionable performances recently and likely still needed a couple more wins if not for the short-notice title chance.
Amanda Nunes will have a huge edge in the wrestling and grappling departments. The last time she held an advantage this large in the grappling, she got a first-round finish. In the striking, Nunes will arguably be better there too with more power in her strikes. If at any point Nunes feels uncomfortable on the feet, the wrestling will be there.
Nunes is likely nearing the end of her career but still has some GOAT performances left in her. This is the exact type of matchup that she can make a statement with a KO or submission. At only -130 it feels like we are receiving a discount in this one.
