With the monumental fight card UFC 300 creeping up, fans have become obsessed with playing matchmaker. That being said, the official UFC matchmakers are playing their cards close to their chests with announcing fights – and rightfully so. Fans have such a high standard for what UFC 300 should look like that Dana White and the matchmakers have an unforgiving hill to climb.
Now, the masses have been calmed as the UFC tossed us a bone and the pieces came together for UFC 300 with an official fight card.
The fight between former light heavyweight champion Jiri Prochazka and Aleksandr Rakic fell into place after Jan Błachowicz had to pull out of the UFC 297 fight with Rakic due to needing shoulder surgery. Rakic is ready to fight and after calling out Jiri Prochazka, the UFC saw how special this fight is and added it to UFC 300.
The more you think about it, another exciting matchup is quite entertaining with Aljamain Sterling who will make his featherweight debut against Calvin Kattar.
The last and third official fight announced is Bo Nickal vs. Cody Brundage. A win for either man will have their star power shine brighter. Bo Nickal looks to keep his undefeated streak alive against Cody Brundage, who has scary power. Dana knew to start the card off with guaranteed fireworks to set the tone for the card.
So far the UFC is off to a pretty good start by putting together an epic fight card that will be remembered until the end of time.
Rumour Mill Swirling Ahead of UFC 300
A great part of the beautiful sport of MMA is the rumour mill. With Jorge Masvidal announcing on X that he is ‘unretired’, it didn’t take long before fans were speculating that he might be added to UFC 300. It is not certain what Masvidal has planned but to some die-hard fans we will hope see him at UFC 300.
Nate Diaz’s name has been swirling around X and is gaining fan excitement. Who knows if Nate takes part in UFC 300, but the rumours are entertaining in their own right
Potential Fights
Leon Edwards vs. Belal Muhammad 2: Edwards vs. Muhammad 2 is an exciting main event for fans who need closure after their first fight ended in a ‘no contest’ because of an eye poke. How fitting; after all these years two elite welterweight have the opportunity to settle the score on one of the grandest stages the UFC can offer with the championship on the line. Whether you love them or hate them, UFC 300 deserves to be the event that finally settles the debate of who is better, Edwards or Muhammad.
Zhang Weili vs. Alexa Grasso: Some fighters are taking matters into their own hands, like Zhang Weili asking Alexa Grasso about a potential champ vs. champ fight. This fight is something special – the more you look at it being discussed on social media, it is unquestionably a fight that could make UFC 300 legendary.
Jim Miller vs. Anyone: Many fans are on the edge of their seat hoping to see MMA national treasure Jim Miller, the man who has competed at UFC 100 and UFC 200, fight at UFC 300. Miller has a tough fight already lined up against Gabriel Benítez. If Miller gets past the tough Benítez, let him take the mic and if healthy enough, let him make the call out for a UFC 300 opponent.
UFC 300 Missing Two Superstars
Unfortunately, two big names Jon Jones and Conor McGregor will miss UFC 300, with Conor calling out Michael Chandler for a fight at International Fight Week on June 29th and Jones recovering from his torn pec injury. Who knows the money the PPV would draw if both of them headlined UFC 300 – it would be memorable for sure.
Honestly, UFC 300 is so far down the road that we may need to pump the brakes on the excitement level being turned all the way up, because we all know that no one is safe when it comes to an unpredictable injury, no matter the bulletproof planning.
With so many talented fighters on the roster throughout many different divisions, we don’t envy anyone of the UFC matchmaker team. Out of the three fights that have been announced, which one excites you the most? Or is there a dream fight that you would like to see happen at UFC 300?
