The battle between two former UFC champions got the highly anticipated UFC 300 fight card started. When the history books close it will forever have Deiveson Figueiredo vs. Cody Garbrandt as the first fight of the night.
This fight being the first of the night speaks volumes to the stacked card that is UFC 300. Entering tonight’s UFC 300 opener Deiveson Figueredo is looking to carry on the momentum from his bantamweight debut, which seen him beat Rob Font by unanimous decision. Meanwhile, Garbrandt comes into the fight on a two-fight win streak off his own after taking out Brian Kelleher at UFC 296, and beating Trevin Jones over three rounds.
The first round was closely contested with both men respecting one another’s power. Cody was the the fighter to get going fast, attacking the legs of the Brazilian. In the second round Figueredo took the fight to the mat and was in full control before submitting the former bantamweight champion in the second round.
