As fans, we have seen our fair share of nasty injuries suffered inside the cage. From broken bones, hematomas and nasty cuts, MMA continues to prove that it is not a forgiving sport and you need to be a special individual to compete. Look no further than Joanderson Brito’s UFC 301 victory over Jack Shore to see why.
Competing in a featherweight bout, Brito had the home advantage with UFC 301 taking place in Brazil. For Shore he was travelling much further, fighting out Wales. Not only will he return home with the loss, but he will also be leaving Brazil with a brand new battle wound. One that’s not for those who are squeamish.
UFC 301 Fight Ended After Gruesome Gash
Starting fast and continually on the front foot. Brito used the UFC 301 home crowd roar to push the pace. Looking to back Shore up, and prevent the Welshman from finding his grove, one of Brito’s main weapons was the low calf kick. Landing plenty in the first round, causing visible damage to his opponent’s leg.
While in the corner in between rounds. Jack Shore’s coaches can be heard telling their fighter not to let Brito land any more of those kicks. Unfortunately, Brito didn’t get the memo and continued to punish the lead leg, swinging full throttle landing bone on bone.
After eating more and more kicks. Eventually, the Shore skin could withstand no more punishment and opened up, creating a visible wound. As the round pushed on, blood began to pour from the gash forcing the referee to call in the ringside doctor.
Once the action was halted, the damage could be fully surveyed. It was clear how much damage the kicks had done. Leaving the UFC 301 crowd audibly shocked. The wound looked less like a cut and more like a bullet hole. After a brief discussion, the referee ended the fight, declaring Brito the winner via TKO.
Was this the most brutal finish at UFC 301?
