The final UFC PPV goes down in the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, and the UFC 310 event is stacked with great fights.
Topping the bill is a flyweight title bout between dominant reigning champion Alexandre Pantoja and UFC debutant Kai Asakura. The Japanese superstar makes his first walk to the UFC octagon this weekend and it’ll be for flyweight gold. He comes into the fight with a 21-4 record and a great resume from a 16 fight tenure in RIZIN. His striking is vicious and is by far his best asset with an array of highlight reel victories. The debut for gold comes as the UFC Flyweight division is suffering because of the current champions success.
This is Pantoja’s third title defence and he has run out of contenders already. With multiple victories over both Brandon Moreno and Brandon Royval who sit at number 1 and 2 in the flyweight rankings the UFC needed fresh blood. ‘The Cannibal’ is an immensely impressive champion with an exceptional grappling game and an aggressive striking game to match. However, it will be in the grappling where he can dominate this match up.
Before that in the co main event an excellent welterweight match up is set to determine the next contender for current champion Belal Muhammed. The people’s main event includes unbeaten Kazakh marauder Shavkat Rakhmonov against fellow unbeaten contender Ian Machado Garry. Originally Muhammed was on the card making his first defence but injury ruled him out. Rakhmonov opted to stay on the card, his form and well rounded skillset has left fans believing he is the champion in waiting and it is only a matter of time before he takes UFC gold back to Kazakhstan. The UFC needed someone to step up and face Rakhmonov in a five round co main, up stepped the Irishman.
Heroically, Garry answered the call after many others turned it down and at 15-0 his unbeaten record is on the line against the most feared man in the division. Since joining the UFC in 2021 Garry has been perfect with eight straight wins showing off his sublime striking, however he has gone to decision in his last 3 fights. The lack of finishes against higher calibre opposition has garnered some critics.
Ones To Watch
On the main card top heavyweight contenders Cyril Gane and Alexander Volkov will face off once again. This time a chance of a title shot is on the line. Back in 2021 Gane impressed in the main event slot against Volkov and won a dominant points decision. Since then form for Gane has been patchy with losses to Jon Jones and Francis Ngannou. His last fight was a great finish over Serghei Spivac however it was back in September 2023. The inactivity leaves fan concerned about the Frenchman’s commitment to MMA. Alternatively, Volkov has been on a hot streak since his defeat to Tom Aspinall in 2022. The towering Russian has won his last four and most impressively dominated Sergei Pavlovich in June. The timing of the fight seems right for Volkov to avenge his defeat from years ago.
Down on the prelims more top contenders tussle for title contention in the featherweight division. Former bantamweight champion Aljamain Sterling continues his hunt for double champion status as he makes his second appearance at 145lbs against a rising unbeaten contender. Movsar Evloev is on the cusp of a 145lbs title shot however fans are rallying against him. Even though he is 18-0 he does not have a single finish on his resume. He brings a grappling heavy style which has brought him massive success however in his last fight many believe he was lucky to get the decision against Arnold Allen. Comparatively, For Sterling he can compete with Evloev in the grappling as a strong wrestler himself and fans have had their criticisms of him just like Evolev except Sterling does have 11 finishes on his resume.
