The UFC today released a post on their official X (formerly Twitter) account with a trailer announcing a Fight Night taking place in Abu Dhabi.
The scheduled event is set to take place on Saturday, August 3rd. Whilst no official main event or matchups have been announced, it leaves fans to speculate on the card.
Abu Dhabi has hosted several events in recent years, becoming one of the UFC’s hotspots outside of America.
UFC Returns to Abu Dhabi
The UFC and Abu Dhabi have had a successful relationship following the creation of Fight Island back in 2020. Since then, many fights have been hosted with multiple champions defending their belts in sold-out arenas.
Lightweight Champion Islam Makhachev has fought in Abu Dhabi multiple times with the champion winning his belt at Yas Island back in 2022.
In a statement, UFC CEO Dana White said: “Abu Dhabi is one of the most incredible cities in the world. I love everything about Abu Dhabi, and I’m excited to bring another epic event”.
“Abu Dhabi is an amazing destination, especially if you are a fight fan. I tell everyone to fly in early, check out the amazing food and experiences Abu Dhabi has to offer, and then end the trip with incredible fights”.
Who will feature on the card?
Officially the UFC hasn’t released any information about who will feature on the card. With the event being a Fight Night, fans shouldn’t expect any of the UFC’s champions to compete on the card.
With Abu Dhabi being a popular place for many fights over the last few years, the event could see middleweight contender Khamzat Chimaev headline the card. The Russian fighter hasn’t fought since his unanimous decision victory over Kamaru Usman back in October and currently doesn’t have a fight lined up.
Belal Muhammad is also another contender to feature in the event with the welterweight featuring several times on the main card in Abu Dhabi. Muhammad will be looking to put himself in the championship equation and is currently on a nine-fight win streak.
