A potential boxing match between Sean Strickland and Jake Paul has been denied by the UFC according to the MMA fighter.
Sean Strickland hasn’t been able to keep away from the headlines since his UFC 293 title victory last September. Holding the converted gold for just four months Stickland lost his title earlier this year at UFC 297 to Dricus Du Plessis. Despite no longer holding gold, the middleweight is still one of the most popular stars on the UFC roster, love him or hate him.
Jake Paul Wants to Fight Sean Strickland, UFC Turn it Down
Sean Strickland has become known over the last few years for his anyone, anywhere attitude. With many clips of Strickland surfacing from sparring where the 32-year-old is going hell for leather, gaining attention both positive and negative.
The latest sparring action to surface of Stickland was earlier this week when the former champion was filmed battering novice boxer and online influencer ‘Sneako’. In the clip Strickland barrage punches at the barely trained fighter and ignores multiple towels thrown in to halt the bout. Eventually being broken up by Forrest Griffin.
With the video gaining a mixed reaction online one man who wasn’t best pleased with Sean Strickland was Jake Paul. Paul took to Twitter to call Strickland out, even offering a 1 million dollar prize if the UFC fighter could win.
Sean Strickland Replies to Jake Paul
Uploading a YouTube video to his channel. Strickland would reply to Paul, saying he’d be happy to spar with the influencer boxer, however, any hopes of a sanctioned bout were futile. Claiming the UFC top brass put the kibosh on the fight due to Paul being unable to sell pay-per-views.
“I actually talked to Hunter, I was like, Hunter, I will fight this man. You let Conor McGregor fight [Floyd] Mayweather, this is an easier fight. Easier money. Can I do that? Hunter explained to me that he sells no fights. When they have fights, they give away tickets, he doesn’t make money. His target audience is children, and they don’t buy pay-per-views. So, a little depressing, because I thought to myself ‘I’ll take a payday beating up this f*cking man’, seems easy enough.”
He continued, “But sadly, Jake Paul is an influencer, he sells to children. Children don’t buy pay-per-views, so, I don’t know man. Get some adults to follow you, and we will fight. So here’s the thing Jake Paul, you clearly know I can’t fight you. You know this, the UFC knows this, we all know this. That me and you can’t fight. But, what we can do, you can get in your fancy plane and fly your ass to Vegas and we can have a little powwow.”
“You know as well as I know, what happens in that.” “I’ll do it for free, I don’t need a check, I don’t need to live stream it. I will do it for free sir. So if that’s something you want, you want to show everyone how big and hard that d*ck is, [fight me].”
