UFC Fight Night Edmonton saw the highly anticipated return of former Flyweight champion Brandon “The Assassin Baby” Moreno.
Last night in Edmonton, Canada held some incredible highlights with the UFC handing out 4 performance bonuses. Home country heroes Charles Jourdain and Jasmine Jasudavicius were granted $50,000 bonuses for their submission victories.
Youssef Zalal also received a bonus for his vicious knee-to-sub transition victory over Jack Shore. Dustin Stolzfus too was gifted 50K when he turned heel finishing Canada’s own Marc-Andre Barriault by first-round knockout.
The main event of Brandon “The Baby Assassin” Moreno v Amir “The Prince” Albazi turned out to be a 5 round clinic.
UFC Fight Night Edmonton: Brandon Moreno Makes Easy Work of Amir Albazi
Brandon “The Assassin Baby” Moreno returned to competition after a 9-month hiatus. Entering the fight Brandon was on a 2-fight losing skid, first losing his belt to Alexandre Pantoja in July 2023.
Moreno then tried to turn the tide on his form but came out looking flat against a fired-up Brandon “Rawdog” Royval. After the loss, he said he would take some time away from the sport.
Despite the ambiguous message, 9 months later he returned ready. Admitting at the pre-fight press conference he hadn’t enjoyed his last two fight camps, he told the media he felt like himself again.
This was evident in his complete domination of Albazi from the first to the final minute. He unanimously won the fight 49-46, 50-45 and 50-45 on the judges scorecards.
The typically dominant wrestling of Albazi was nullified by Moreno’s lightning-fast sprawls. The utilisation of his trademark piercing jab, fluid head movement and flurried striking combinations overwhelmed Amir.
By the fifth round, Moreno had Albazi bloodied and looking defeated. After a failed takedown Moreno tagged Albazi with a left hook putting him on wobbly legs.
“The Prince” would ultimately survive to the final bell, but knew that Moreno was the winner. Yet another clinical Brandon Moreno performance personifies the brilliance of the Flyweight division’s top 5.
A new name has been thrown in the mix at Flyweight with UFC debutant Kai Asakura booked against champion Alexandre Pantoja at UFC 310. With Moreno and Kai Kara-France both coming off emphatic victories who will be next to fight for Flyweight gold?
