The UFC 287 main card kicked off with an originally scheduled Bantamweight bout between Raul Rosas Jr. vs Christian Rodriguez. Rodriguez missed weight, giving up 20% of his purse to Rosas Jr. and forcing the bout into a catchweight of 137lbs.
Rosas Jr. (7-0-0 MMA) is currently the youngest fighter on the UFC roster. Coming into the fight undefeated and with the proud nation of Mexico behind him, he has the opportunity to become the youngest UFC champion, breaking the record that Jon Jones set over 12 years ago should his undefeated run continue. Jones was 23 years old when he first claimed light-heavyweight gold, leaving Raul 5 years or less to achieve the same feat.
Christian Rodriguez (8-1-0) comes into this bout with a 1 fight win streak after defeating Joshua Weems in his last outing via Anaconda Choke. His fight before and his promotional debut saw him handed his first professional loss at the hands of Jonathan Pierce via unanimous decision. Cee-Rod will look to halt the hype train of Rosas Jr. and see himself climb up further towards the rankings of the Bantamweight division.
