UFC fighters took to Twitter on Saturday night to react to the breathtaking five round war between Jared Cannonier and Marvin Vettori at UFC Vegas 75.
Cannonier put on a clinic and battered the resilient Vettori over the course of the five rounds, setting a significant strikes record for the middleweight division in the process.
Vettori’s incredible chin was tested like never before against a ferocious Cannonier, but he would not be finished.
Cannonier made sure that he is still a title contender in the middleweight division with this violent performance.

This was Cannonier’s second successive win and a statement one at that, landing 249 significant strikes.
It was Vettori who hurt Cannonier first though with a solid punch, but the American held on and dramatically turned the tide.
He began to walk Vettori down, landing his jab and big right hands.
Somehow Vettori’s chin did not give out under Cannonier’s relentless attacks. The bloodied ‘Italian Dream’ showed otherworldly toughness in this fight.
Cannonier mixed things up throughout the night, securing takedowns and landing ground and pound, but Vettori didn’t back down and landed a nasty elbow and even took Cannonier’s back in the third round.
The two fighters set an impressive pace for the entire fight. Vettori fought hard and landed a head kick in the fourth, but it was Cannonier who continued to do the most damage and it was a clear unanimous decision win for ‘Tha Killa Gorilla’ who has now won four of five fights.
In his Octagon interview, Cannonier said: “I want the title shot. That’s what I’m here for.”
“I’m willing and ready to step in if anything happens with that title shot coming up, or the fight that gets me the title shot. That’s what I want,” he added.
The champion Israel Adesanya may already have a win over Cannonier, but after this performance he will be keeping a close eye on his previous opponent.
