The co-main event on the UFC 287 main card featured a veteran stand off between Jorge Gamebred Masvidal and Gilbert Durinho Burns.
Jorge Masvidal (35-16 MMA ) I’m sure you’ll agree needs no introduction. A veteran of the highest degree, Masvidal has been around since the backyard brawl days and sees his 20th year in professional MMA in 2023. After a breakout year in 2019, seeing him finish all 3 of his opponents, he has since gone 0-3 with fights against the divisions elite against Kamaru Usman and Colby Covington. Jorge hopes to bounce back with a win over Durinho, make one last run at the title and settle the beef with the current champ Leon Edwards. Masvidal has come out on record saying this could be his last bout, should he not secure the win over Gilbert.
Gilbert Burns (26-5 MMA) is one of the most prolific and accredited submission grapplers in the UFC. With this being his 20th fight with the UFC, Burns has had an illustrious career in the promotion, going 14-5 in his current 19 fight tenure. Coming off a dominant submission win over Neil Magny in his last outing, Gilbert fought division boogeyman Khamzat Chimaev in his penultimate bout, earning the “Fight of the Year” award in most fans’ eyes. With him and Masivdal both sharing a common stoppage loss to the former champ Kamaru Usman, the two veterans will look to finish each other in this top of the food chain welterweight bout.
